How to scan paper into a PDF on a Samsung Galaxy

Hold your Samsung Galaxy camera over a sheet of paper in Photo mode and tap the yellow scan button in the frame to capture a straightened, cropped page. Depending on your One UI version, those captures either save as separate images in your Gallery or export through Samsung Notes and Google Drive. When your phone saves individual pictures, open JPG to PDF in your mobile browser to combine them into one verified PDF in page order.

Three ways to get a PDF scan on a Galaxy phone

Marek is an electrical contractor sitting in his van with a Samsung Galaxy S23. Before the 2 pm Friday billing cutoff, he must upload a six-page signed site inspection checklist and two supplier invoices to a contractor portal as one file named inspection_bay4_signed.pdf, capped at 5 MB. He used the yellow scan button in his Samsung Camera app on all eight sheets, only to find eight separate cropped JPG files in his Gallery instead of a combined PDF.

Using the built-in Samsung Camera document detector

Galaxy phones running One UI include automatic edge detection in the Camera app. Lay your sheet on a dark, matte surface such as a clipboard or car seat so all four paper edges stand out. Open the Camera app in default Photo mode on the 1x lens and hold the phone flat above the page.

Once the camera locks onto the corners, a yellow rectangle outlines the paper and a yellow scan button (labelled Scan or marked with a T icon) appears. Tap that yellow button rather than the white shutter, drag the corner handles to the paper edges, and pick a color mode before saving.

If the yellow outline never shows up, check three settings:

Keep the filter on original color or greyscale when the page carries blue ink signatures or stamps, since harsh black-and-white filters can erase light ink.

Combine separate Samsung Gallery scans into one PDF

On many Galaxy models, the camera scanner saves each cropped sheet into your Gallery as an individual image rather than a PDF. Samsung saves .jpg files by default, unless high-efficiency pictures are turned on in camera settings, which writes .heic files instead.

  1. Open JPG to PDF in Samsung Internet or Chrome, or HEIC to PDF if high-efficiency HEIC capture is turned on.
  2. Tap Choose images and select all eight cropped scan pictures from your Gallery or the Recent view at once.
  3. Review the numbered list and use the up and down arrow buttons to fix pages that the Android picker handed over out of order.
  4. Under Page size, select A4 or US Letter with a Narrow or Standard margin so every sheet prints at a uniform size, or leave Match image for screen viewing.
  5. Tap Create PDF. The browser builds the file locally, reopens the finished PDF, and verifies the page count, page dimensions, and image pixel sizes before showing Download PDF.

Shrinking the finished PDF and finding it in My Files

Because JPG to PDF copies each JPEG stream byte for byte without re-encoding, small serial numbers and signatures stay crisp. However, eight cropped photos from a Galaxy camera can total 18 MB, exceeding Marek's 5 MB portal cap.

Build the full PDF first and shrink it once afterward. Open Compress PDF, select your PDF, and tap a preset chip (100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB, or 2 MB) or type 5 into the exact target box with the unit set to MB. If the portal counts a megabyte as 1,000,000 bytes rather than 1,048,576, enter 4800 KB and check the preview before downloading.

A Galaxy camera and a browser converter handle urgent field paperwork well, but three cases call for another route:

Samsung document scanning questions

Why does my Samsung camera save scans as pictures instead of a PDF?
In many One UI versions, the Camera scanner saves a cropped image to your Gallery rather than a PDF. Combine those Gallery images in your browser with JPG to PDF, or use Samsung Notes or Google Drive to export a PDF directly.
Where do downloaded PDFs go on a Samsung Galaxy phone?
Files downloaded in Samsung Internet or Chrome go to the Download folder on internal storage. Open the Samsung My Files app and tap Downloads to view or share the file.
Can I turn Samsung HEIC photos into a PDF without changing camera settings?
Yes. Open HEIC to PDF in your browser. It decodes each HEIC image locally, flattens transparency onto white, stores it as JPEG at quality 92 at its original pixel dimensions, and verifies the PDF.
Does combining my scans in the browser upload them to a server?
No. Reading your Gallery images, building the PDF, and running the verification check all happen inside your phone's browser tab.

Combine your Samsung scans into one PDF

Open the converter in your phone's browser. Your Gallery scans stay on your handset, and every page is verified before you download the PDF.
