Combine separate scanned sheets into a single PDF
When a flatbed scanner or phone leaves you with a folder of separate page files, you can join them into a single PDF right in your browser tab. Drop JPG or PNG scans into Images to PDF, scanner TIFF stacks into TIFF to PDF, or single-sheet PDFs into Merge PDF, arrange the page sequence, and download one verified document. If you have not started scanning yet, enabling the multi-page option in your scanner utility captures the whole stack into one file from the start.
Match your scanner output to the right browser tool
Priya manages a dental clinic and needs to send a 14-page equipment lease agreement plus a two-page insurance rider to an underwriter before courier cutoff at 3 pm. Her flatbed scanner has no sheet feeder, so scanning the 16 sheets left a folder on her PC containing 16 image files (Flatbed_01.jpg through Flatbed_16.jpg) totaling 42 MB. The portal accepts only a single PDF named clinic_autoclave_lease_2026.pdf under 10 MB.
| What your scanner produced | PDFGym tool to use | How it handles your pages |
|---|---|---|
| Separate .jpg or .png files (one image per sheet) | Images to PDF | Embeds each image as one page without resampling and fits sheets onto A4 or US Letter |
| Single-page .pdf files (Scan_01.pdf, Scan_02.pdf) | Merge PDF | Copies each PDF page whole in order, preserving page dimensions and any OCR text layer |
| Scanner .tif or .tiff files (single or multi-frame) | TIFF to PDF | Decodes every TIFF frame into a reorderable page and uses the recorded scanner DPI for size |
| iPhone .heic camera photos of paper | HEIC to PDF | Decodes each primary photo in your tab and stores it as JPEG at quality 92 on its own page |
Join separate scan images into one PDF step by step
When your scanner or phone saved each sheet as a JPG or PNG image, build the combined document in one pass:
- Open Images to PDF in your browser. (For
.tiffiles, open TIFF to PDF; if your scanner wrote one.pdfper sheet, open Merge PDF.) - Click
Choose imagesor drag all sixteen files (Flatbed_01.jpgthroughFlatbed_16.jpg) onto the drop area. - Check the
Image orderlist from top to bottom and use the up and down arrow buttons to move any misplaced sheet. - Under
Page size, selectA4orUS Letterand chooseNone,Narrow, orStandardunderMarginsso every sheet prints at a uniform size. LeaveMatch imageselected only for screen viewing. - Click
Create PDF. The tool builds the document inside your browser tab, reopens the finished PDF to verify the page count, page sizes, and image pixel dimensions, and showsDownload PDF.
Make your scanner save one PDF from the start
If you still have paper stacks to scan, tell your computer or phone scanner to append each pass into one PDF automatically:
- macOS (Image Capture and Preview): Open
Image Capture(orFile > Import from ScannerinPreview), setthe output formattoPDF, and enablethe option that combines scans into one document. Each new sheet scanned on the flatbed appends to the same PDF. - Windows flatbed and feeder utilities: In your scanner software, select
PDFas the save format and enable the multi-page setting (such asthe option for saving multiple pages to a single file) so the program waits for the next sheet before closing the file. - iPhone and Android built-in scanners: In the iPhone
NotesorFilesscanner, or theGoogle Drivescanner on Android, keep capturing sheets in the same session and tapthe save optiononly after the final page. See how to scan documents with your phone for lighting and framing tips.
Handling double-sided stacks, blank pages, and 10 MB caps
Multi-page packets rarely come off a flatbed in final form on the first try. If you scanned a double-sided contract by running all front sides first and back sides second, or if a duplex feeder included blank reverse pages, open the combined PDF in Organize pages. Drag the thumbnails into reading order, select any blank sheets, click Delete selected, and save the cleaned result as one PDF.
If a single page went onto the glass upside down or has a dark border from the scanner lid, open the PDF in Rotate PDF. You can rotate that page by 90 or 180 degrees and trim up to 40 percent from any margin.
Because Images to PDF embeds your JPG bytes without resampling, Priya's 16 flatbed scans produce a 42 MB PDF. Rather than rescanning at a low resolution, take the finished 16-page PDF to Compress PDF. Tap a preset chip (100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB, or 2 MB) or type 10 MB into the exact target box (or 9500 KB if the portal counts 1,000-byte kilobytes). Compressing the completed document once re-encodes the page images a single time to hit your cap while keeping small print legible.
Multi-page scanning mistakes and how to fix them
- Page 10 lands right after Page 1: Alphabetical sorting puts
Scan_10.jpgahead ofScan_2.jpgbecause1sorts before2. Number files with leading zeros (01to16) or reorder rows with the arrow buttons before building the PDF. - Turning single-page PDFs into JPGs just to combine them: If your scanner exported sixteen individual
.pdffiles, drop them directly into Merge PDF so pages copy without loss and any recognized text stays selectable. - Shrinking each scan image before building the PDF: Resizing sixteen JPGs in an image editor and then compressing the final PDF runs lossy compression twice. Build the PDF from the original scans first, then compress the finished PDF once.
- Discovering a skipped sheet after filing the paper away: Compare the page count on the result screen against your paper stack before putting the stack away.
- Crooked text from a tilted sheet on the glass: PDF page rotation turns pages in 90-degree steps and cannot deskew a sheet scanned at a 5-degree tilt. Butt the corner of each page against the scanner's plastic corner guide when scanning.
When a manual flatbed or browser workflow is the wrong choice
Assembling scans in a browser tab works well for a 10-page or 20-page packet, but three situations call for another route:
- Boxes of archive records or 100-page contracts: Lifting a flatbed lid a hundred times takes hours. Use an office copier or desktop scanner with an automatic duplex document feeder (ADF) that scans both sides into one PDF in a single pass.
- Searchable text requirements (OCR):
Images to PDFandTIFF to PDFplace page images into a PDF without running optical character recognition. If a court or client requires selectable, searchable text, scan with desktop OCR software. - Sensitive paperwork on a public computer: Although PDFGym processes files inside your browser tab without uploading them, scanning onto a shared computer leaves local files behind unless you delete the scans and empty the system trash.
Questions about multi-page PDF scans
- Can I mix portrait and landscape scans in the same PDF?
- Yes. When you select A4 or US Letter in Images to PDF, any wide landscape image rotates its PDF page to landscape so the sheet fits inside the margins without cropping. With Match image, each page takes the proportions of its scan.
- How do I add one forgotten page to a multi-page scan PDF?
- Scan the missing sheet, turn it into a one-page PDF with Images to PDF if it saved as a picture, and combine it with your main document in Merge PDF. Use Organize pages to drag the new page into the middle of the packet.
- Why did my scanner create one file that only shows page one in some viewers?
- Your scanner likely saved a multi-page TIFF (.tif) file, which basic image viewers open on frame one only. Open that file in TIFF to PDF to turn every frame into a standard PDF page.
- Are my scanned pages uploaded when I combine them here?
- No. Reading the files, assembling the pages, and verifying the finished PDF all run locally inside your browser tab.
