Need to change words in a PDF? That decides it

Sejda changes words where they sit and turns scans into searchable text, two jobs PDFGym does not attempt. Its free tier rations use by the hour and by file size, while PDFGym rations nothing but stays on the lighter end: file handling plus text-first conversion and light edits. If the job means changing words in place, use Sejda; if it means touching the file, stay here.

The line is text: pick your side

A client sends back a two-page quote with the wrong delivery date in the second paragraph. The fix is three words on page 2, due in an hour. That is Sejda's territory: open the editor, change the sentence, export. PDFGym cannot change words in place; Edit PDF only covers the old words and types new ones over the gap.

Flip the job around. The fixed quote exports at 8.4 MB and the client's portal caps attachments at 2 MB. That is PDFGym's territory: set 2 MB as the target and download a file that fits, as many times as drafts require, because no hourly counter exists. Most real weeks contain both jobs, so bookmark both tools and stop trying to make either cover everything.

Sejda and PDFGym compared

Sejda's web tools process on its servers. That server is what makes recognition and heavy files possible, and it is also why the document travels off your machine. Its desktop app keeps files home at desktop prices. With that framing, the side by side:

What Sejda does that PDFGym cannot

Two capabilities, both real. The editor changes text where it sits, which rescues the wrong-date quote above without rebuilding the document. The recognition reads scanned pages into searchable text, with the paid tier advertised at a hundred pages tops per task, files up to five hundred megabytes, and generous processing time for each task. Checked 9 September 2026. Those are server numbers no tab will match on a modest laptop, and anyone with a weekly scan pile should weigh them seriously.

The honest price of those capabilities is the upload. Every web task sends the document to Sejda's servers first, so a file you would not email to a stranger deserves the same hesitation here. The desktop app removes that concern for people willing to pay desktop prices and install software.

What the free tier costs you

Sejda's pricing page described free use as hourly and page rations, capped uploads and caps that vary per tool, with no signup required, checked 9 September 2026. Two of those caps surface as limit messages on its editor page: 3 tasks per hour and 50 MB per file. Skipping signup is a genuine convenience. Meeting a limit mid-task under deadline pressure is the genuine cost, and it is exactly when a free tool becomes a paid one.

The paid side, on the same 9 September 2026 listing: seven days of Web access for five dollars per user, sold once rather than subscribed, Web Monthly for 7.50 per user each month, and a combined Desktop and Web year for sixty three dollars per user. The seven-day option is the sensible shape for a one-off job like the quote fix above.

What PDFGym does without limits

Splitting, reordering and deleting pages, size targets, rotation, images both directions, passwords, stamps, redaction, metadata checks and repair, each reading its output back and comparing it with the input before download. No hourly ration, no per-file megabyte cap, no account to create. The toolset stops hard at the in-place boundary: words on the page cannot be changed where they sit, only covered and retyped.

How we checked

We read Sejda's pricing page and the limit messages on its editor page for the caps, prices and recognition figures quoted above, each marked 9 September 2026, and matched the PDFGym side against the tool pages and code in this repository. We created no accounts, uploaded no documents and ran no timed tests, so treat the numbers as published statements on that date.
